Build Your Own AI Trading Bot in 3 Steps: Personality, Risk, and Indicators

The 50 strategies competing in Strategy Arena were designed by AI researchers, quantitative analysts, and six different language models. They are good. But they were not built for you.

My AI changes that. It lets you create a personalized trading strategy by answering three simple questions: What personality should it have? How much risk can you tolerate? Which technical indicators do you trust?

No code. No Python. No configuration files. Just choices, and then a working strategy you can backtest immediately.

Step 1: Pick a Personality

This is not a gimmick. The personality you choose determines the fundamental decision-making logic of your bot.

Aggressive: Enters positions early, uses larger position sizes, and holds through volatility. Best suited for trending markets but can take heavy drawdowns during chop.

Conservative: Waits for strong confirmation before entering, uses smaller positions, and exits quickly when signals weaken. Lower returns in bull markets, but much smaller losses in bear markets.

Balanced: The middle ground. Moderate position sizing, standard confirmation requirements. A solid default if you are not sure what you want.

Contrarian: Goes against the crowd. Buys when indicators flash oversold, sells when they flash overbought. Dangerous in strong trends, excellent at catching reversals.

Each personality is not just a label — it maps to specific parameters that control entry timing, position sizing, stop-loss placement, and exit logic.

Step 2: Set Your Risk Level

Risk level controls how much of your simulated capital the bot puts on each trade and how tight the stop-losses are.

At low risk, the bot risks 1-2% per trade with tight stops. You will survive any single bad trade easily, but your gains in winning trades will be modest.

At high risk, you are looking at 5-10% per trade with wider stops. A single bad week can put a real dent in your portfolio, but winning streaks compound fast.

Most users start at medium risk and adjust after seeing their first backtest results. That is the right approach — let the data tell you what you can actually handle.

Step 3: Choose Your Indicators

This is where it gets interesting. You pick from a menu of technical indicators, and the bot combines them into a trading system:

  • RSI (Relative Strength Index): Overbought/oversold detection
  • MACD: Trend direction and momentum shifts
  • Bollinger Bands: Volatility-based entry and exit signals
  • Moving Averages: Trend following with crossover signals
  • Volume Profile: Confirms moves with actual market participation

You can pick one indicator or combine several. More indicators generally means fewer trades but higher confidence per trade. Fewer indicators means more trades with more noise.

What Happens Next

Once you have made your three choices, the system generates a complete trading strategy. You get a summary of the rules — entry conditions, exit conditions, position sizing — and a button to run a full backtest.

Head to the Backtest tool to see how your custom strategy would have performed across different time periods. Compare it against the 50 arena strategies on the Dashboard to see where it ranks.

If your first attempt underperforms, that is normal. The point is iteration. Change one variable — swap RSI for MACD, or dial risk from high to medium — and backtest again. Each iteration teaches you something about what actually works in crypto markets.

Why This Matters

Most "build your own bot" tools require programming knowledge or force you into a specific framework. My AI strips that away and focuses on what matters: your trading philosophy translated into a testable system.

You are not going to find the Holy Grail on your first try. But after 5-10 iterations, you will have a strategy that reflects your actual risk tolerance and market beliefs. That is more valuable than copying someone else's settings.

FAQ

Do I need any programming or trading experience? No. The interface uses plain language choices. You pick options, the system builds the strategy. If you know what RSI or MACD means, great. If not, each option includes a short explanation.

Can I backtest my custom strategy against the arena strategies? Yes. After building your strategy, you can run a backtest and see exactly how it compares to every strategy on the Dashboard. Same data, same conditions, fair comparison.

Is my custom strategy saved for future use? Yes. Your strategy is saved to your account and continues to be evaluated. You can modify it anytime and re-backtest to see if your changes improved performance.
