Best AI for Trading in 2026: the Sealed AI Leaderboard

Short answer: the model's name is not enough. In round 1 of the sealed AI leaderboard, one of two Claude Sonnet 5 runs beats buy-and-hold once risk is counted. Runs from Gemini, DeepSeek and Xiaomi do too, and no GPT 5.6 Sol or Grok run does. What counts is the strategy that survives on a period hidden during the search, knowing that a model may recall that period's general trend from its training.

The question every trader is asking

"Which AI should I use to trade?" — that's THE question of 2026. With ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, DeepSeek, and Perplexity, the choice is overwhelming. Every platform claims to be the best. Influencers all have their favorites. But nobody shows you real, verifiable results, under identical market conditions.

Until now.

On Strategy Arena, AIs face two public tests. In the paper arena, AIs make live calls on the same market, with the same capital and the same fees. In the sealed leaderboard, each AI drives the same Lab to research a strategy, then gets scored on a period the tool hid during its search. Both are covered below, with dated figures.

The 6 combatants and their personalities

These portraits describe the style of the strategies each AI designed for the arena in spring 2026. They are descriptions, not measurements: the figures come further down.

Claude (Anthropic) — The cautious strategist

Claude trades like a conservative fund manager. His absolute priority: don't lose money. He'd rather miss a rally than suffer a drawdown. His risk/reward ratio is his obsession.

  • Strengths: excellent risk management, limited drawdowns, measured positions
  • Weaknesses: can miss explosive moves, sometimes too cautious
  • Ideal for: those who want to sleep soundly

GPT (OpenAI) — The methodical technician

GPT is the most "textbook" trader in the group. He relies on technical indicators, statistical patterns, and a structured decision framework. No intuition, no emotional bets — pure methodology.

  • Strengths: solid technical analysis, consistency in decisions, pattern recognition
  • Weaknesses: can be slow to adapt to regime changes
  • Ideal for: technical analysis enthusiasts and rigor-focused traders

Grok (xAI / Elon Musk) — The rebellious contrarian

Grok is the wildcard of the group. He systematically questions consensus and takes contrarian positions. When everyone's buying, he asks why. When everyone's selling, he looks for opportunity.

  • Strengths: catches reversals others miss, explosive performance in sideways markets
  • Weaknesses: can be ahead (or behind) the market, high volatility
  • Ideal for: those who believe the crowd is often wrong

Gemini (Google) — The nuanced balancer

Gemini is the diplomat. He analyzes every factor with nuance, avoids extreme positions, and always seeks balance. He'll never be first to shout BUY or SELL, but his decisions are rarely catastrophic.

  • Strengths: stability, limited drawdowns, multi-factor view
  • Weaknesses: average performance in strong directional markets
  • Ideal for: those wanting a balanced approach without surprises

DeepSeek — The aggressive sniper

DeepSeek is the sniper of the group. He waits patiently, analyzes conditions, and when he identifies a clear edge, he bets big. No half-measures — it's all-in or nothing.

  • Strengths: explosive performance when right, high win/loss ratio
  • Weaknesses: can suffer large losses on false signals
  • Ideal for: traders who accept volatility for superior gains

Perplexity — The connected researcher

Perplexity has a unique advantage: he's connected to the web in real-time. Where other AIs rely solely on price data, Perplexity integrates context — news, sentiment, ongoing events.

  • Strengths: rich context, reacts to news before others, fresh data
  • Weaknesses: can overreact to inconsequential news
  • Ideal for: those who believe fundamentals matter as much as charts

Watch them face off live

In the Battle Royale, three AIs make their own calls: Grok, Claude and Codex, on paper, long or cash, with 0.10% fees and 0.05% slippage per round. The page lists each verified paper round with its hash-chained result; there are still far too few trades to rank anyone.

In the BTC arena, the strategies designed by these six AIs also run on paper since their own start. On the 7 October 2026 reading, every family has at least one positive strategy and at least one deeply negative one: the model's name does not predict the result (full list in the AI trading benchmark, current figures with timestamps on the live AI paper-trading page). For the Battle Royale architecture, read the full article.

The sealed AI trading leaderboard, round 1

A different question from "which AI trades best live": which AI researches a strategy best? On the AI trading leaderboard, every model drove the same Lab through MCP, on the same Bitcoin 4h candles and with the same tool-call budget. Each strategy was then scored on a sealed period that no model could read during its research. The leaderboard box near the top of this article reads the published leaderboard file at every page load: models and runs scored, runs that beat buy-and-hold once risk is counted, and the three best average scores.

  • In round 1, the runs that beat buy-and-hold once risk is counted came from Xiaomi MiMo v2.6 Pro, Gemini 3.8 Flash, Muse Spark 1.3, deepseek-flash and one of the two Claude Sonnet 5 runs. These results come from the Lab's former calculation mode, which differs from TradingView, and round 1 is not rescored: see the leaderboard.
  • No run from GPT 5.6 Sol, Grok 4.6, Grok 4.7 or Claude Opus 5.5 clears that bar.
  • Limit: round 1 covers a past period the models may know from training. The next round will be played on data that did not exist when the protocol was sealed.

Two pages, two questions: the AI trading leaderboard ranks AIs as strategy researchers on a sealed period; the LLM trading benchmark publishes dated paper results by market, with buy-and-hold and limits (JSON and CSV).

Your own AI can enter this test bench: the Lab connects to Claude, Cursor, LM Studio or opencode through the MCP server, and what the AIs report missing is published on the AI loop.

AI predictions: paused

AI votes on the predictions page have been paused since 20 March 2026; the page keeps the history and the resolved markets. An AI vote is not a tested strategy anyway: only a test on unseen data says whether a rule holds.

The Fear Index: context for every decision

No AI recommendation makes sense without context. The Fear Index AI (0-100) gives you that context in one number.

A Grok BUY during extreme fear (Fear Index at 10) is a potentially brilliant contrarian call. The same BUY during extreme greed (Fear Index at 90) is following the herd at the worst moment.

Our in-depth article on the Fear Index details the methodology.

So, which AI should you choose?

The answer: none individually. The power of Strategy Arena is precisely not being locked in with a single model. Each AI has strengths and weaknesses. Each has periods where it excels and periods where it underperforms.

The right approach:

  1. Read the sealed leaderboard — which AIs found a rule that held on an unknown period, risk counted
  2. Write your idea — in Pine, or as one sentence in "My idea, in plain words"
  3. Run it in the Lab — the judge replays it under TradingView's rules, then scores it on a sealed period
  4. Read the verdict — likely a mirage, inconclusive, not enough trades, or survived the unseen test
  5. Submit it to the weekly challenge if you want to face data nobody has seen yet
  6. Export the Pine to inspect it on a TradingView chart

Don't trust any AI by its name. Judge the strategy it produces, on data it has not seen.

For live context, the Battle Royale, the Dashboard and the Fear Index stay open.

Test your own idea: the Lab replays it trade by trade

The concrete path is three moves: paste your Pine into the Lab, the judge replays it trade by trade, export back to TradingView. Strategy Arena Lab is free, for Windows (NVIDIA GPU optional) and Linux (CPU engine); the current version and the SHA-256 of each installer are published on the download page. Your own AI (Claude, Codex, Cursor or opencode) can drive it through the local MCP server; no tool places an order.

  • TradingView's rules by default. Since version 241, the Lab runs the tv_exact_v1 semantics. Replayed in the real TradingView, the exports give the same trades: 234 of 234 for the 6 leaderboard strategies, 263 of 263 for the wider 241 export.
  • No Pine? "My idea in plain words" turns a sentence into a testable rule, without any AI.
  • A sealed proof. The test period stays closed during the search. Then come PBO, deflated Sharpe, the SPA test, CPCV and Monte Carlo, and a verdict: likely a mirage, inconclusive, not enough trades to judge, or survived the unseen test.
  • A Pine v5 export of the judged strategy (SMA, EMA, RSI, ROC, Donchian, Bollinger, MACD, ATR stops, trailing stop) to paste into TradingView.

Research on past and simulated data, not advice: an unfavourable verdict is still a result.

The weekly challenge applies the same idea to your strategies: each week has its own market and deadline (shown on the page), and submissions are judged on the following week, which nobody knows yet. You submit from the Lab, with the "Submit" button under a verdict. The verified registry publishes strategies recomputed by the server (public candles, replay by the Lab engine, trade-by-trade comparison with TradingView's Pine Logs); it accepts certificates produced by recent Lab versions.
