StrategyQuant X and Build Alpha generate strategies and export them to many platforms, MetaTrader included, for $1,290 to $2,900 as a one-time payment. Strategy Arena Lab is free and does something else: it judges a Pine Script strategy on a period sealed before any tuning, counts every trial and checks the trades one by one in TradingView.

Three tools, three jobs
These tools are often named together because they all talk about robustness. They do not answer the same question.
- StrategyQuant X answers: "which strategies can I build automatically on this market?" Its home page describes generation by machine learning and genetic programming, then export as full source code for the chosen platform.
- Build Alpha answers the same question without code: you combine signals, the software searches the combinations, runs them through its robustness tests, then exports the code.
- Strategy Arena Lab answers: "does this specific strategy, the one I look at in TradingView, hold on data it has never seen, once every trial made to find it is counted?"
A generator and a judge can work together. The choice depends first on the platform you trade on.
StrategyQuant X: the reference for MetaTrader
StrategyQuant X is the most complete tool on this list for MetaTrader users. Its features page lists NinjaTrader, MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 (hedging and netting modes), TradeStation, MultiCharts and JForex as output platforms. TradingView and Pine Script are not listed as of 17 October 2026.
Its strengths, according to the vendor:
- strategy generation at scale, by machine learning and genetic programming;
- an unlimited number of out-of-sample periods, with filtering on each;
- two Monte Carlo tests (more than 9 simulation types), a walk-forward matrix, System Parameter Permutation (SPP) and the optimization profile;
- Windows, Mac and Linux.
Price depends on the edition: $1,290 (Starter), $1,490 (Professional, struck-through $1,790) and $2,900 (Ultimate, struck-through $4,900) as a one-time payment, or 12 monthly instalments that the vendor describes as a payment plan rather than a subscription. Walk-forward and the advanced Monte Carlo tests are in Professional and Ultimate, not in Starter. A full 14-day trial is offered.
Build Alpha: no code, and a Pine export
Build Alpha targets the same generation work, without writing code. Its home page lists compatibility with TradeStation, NinjaTrader, Interactive Brokers, Python, MultiCharts, MetaTrader 4/5 and TradingView; its FAQ adds ProRealTime. Of the two generators, it is the one that outputs Pine Script.
Its test suite is broad: noise test, comparison with random strategies (Vs Random), delayed entries, several Monte Carlo methods, Monte Carlo permutation (MCPT), walk-forward, and workflows with multiple out-of-sample periods. Its TradingView page states that "the backtests match, tick for tick"; that is a vendor claim, with no public verification described on the page.
The lifetime license is listed at $1,497 (struck-through $2,497), with no free trial. The software runs on Windows; the FAQ offers Mac users a virtual machine.
Strategy Arena Lab: a judge for Pine Script
The Lab does not try to build thousands of strategies for you. It starts from one rule (written by you, imported from Pine, or proposed by your AI) and organises the test so it cannot be edited after the fact.
- A sealed period. The end of the history is set aside before any calculation, and the seal is written to disk. The site describes two settings: 30% by default for a research session driven by an AI (/en/lab-mcp), 20% in the first-session path of the download page.
- Counted trials. Every variant tried enters the deflated Sharpe ratio and the probability of backtest overfitting (PBO). A duplicate is not counted twice, and the total is never reduced.
- One judge, once. The chosen rule is replayed once on the sealed period, with a walk-forward in sealed blocks and Hansen's SPA test against buy-and-hold. Three verdicts: holds, mirage or inconclusive.
- Trades checked in TradingView. The judged strategy is exported as Pine v5 with its fees and execution policy; pasted into TradingView, it must produce the same trades. The 6 strategies of the AI leaderboard give 234 identical trades out of 234; a buy stop order, 62 out of 62 (method and figures).
- Rust, CPU and GPU. The Rust CPU engine stays the final authority; CUDA only speeds up the search, on Windows with an NVIDIA card. On Linux, the Lab runs on CPU.
- AI-driven. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, LM Studio or opencode connect to the open Lab over MCP, locally (127.0.0.1, a fresh token every session).
This protocol is measurable: across 350 automated research sessions run on pure noise, it returned 0 "holds" (measurement).
What the Lab does not do
- No MetaTrader, TradeStation or NinjaTrader: the only output is Pine Script.
- No StrategyQuant-style mass generation: the Lab sweeps variants of a rule; it does not compose strategies by genetic programming.
- No execution: no broker connection, no real orders.
- No macOS.
- Partial Pine import: the Lab reads a deterministic subset of Pine Script, not every script.
- An unsigned Windows installer: SmartScreen may warn; the SHA-256 checksum is published on the download page.
- A research tool: a "holds" describes the past, not the future.
Which one to choose?
| Your situation | Best-suited tool |
|---|---|
| You trade on MetaTrader 4 or 5 and want to generate Expert Advisors | StrategyQuant X or Build Alpha |
| You want to generate strategies without code for several platforms, TradingView included | Build Alpha |
| You have a Pine strategy and want to know whether it holds out of sample | Strategy Arena Lab |
| You want your AI to search, but a judge to decide on a period it has not seen | Strategy Arena Lab |
| You work on macOS without a virtual machine | StrategyQuant X |
A strategy found by a generator can also go before an independent judge afterwards: that is where these tools complement each other.
Try the Lab
- Download Strategy Arena Lab, free for Windows and Linux (version 0.1.0-250, 17 October 2026).
- Plug your AI in over MCP and see what it cannot do.
- Prepare an idea in the Prisme workshop (French interface), then send it to the Lab.

FAQ
What is the main difference between StrategyQuant X, Build Alpha and Strategy Arena Lab?
StrategyQuant X and Build Alpha are paid strategy generators that export to many platforms, MetaTrader included. Strategy Arena Lab is free and focused on Pine Script and TradingView: it seals a test period, counts the trials and checks the trades one by one in TradingView.
Is there a StrategyQuant alternative for TradingView?
Build Alpha exports Pine Script; StrategyQuant X does not list TradingView among its output platforms as of 17 October 2026. Strategy Arena Lab imports and exports a deterministic subset of Pine Script and publishes its trade-by-trade comparisons with real TradingView.
How much do StrategyQuant X and Build Alpha cost?
As of 17 October 2026, StrategyQuant X lists $1,290, $1,490 and $2,900 as one-time payments depending on the edition, with a 14-day free trial. Build Alpha lists a lifetime license at $1,497, with no free trial. Strategy Arena Lab is free; an Operator tier at 29 EUR per month raises some limits.
What is a sealed holdout?
It is the end of the history set aside before any tuning, which the search cannot read. In Strategy Arena Lab, the seal is written to disk before any calculation and the period is opened only once, by the judge.
Does Strategy Arena Lab work with MetaTrader 4 or 5?
No. The Lab exports Pine Script for TradingView and does not produce MetaTrader Expert Advisors. For MT4 and MT5, StrategyQuant X and Build Alpha are the tools on this list that do.
Which of these tools places real orders?
None of the three acts as an execution layer here: StrategyQuant X and Build Alpha export code that you run on your platform. Strategy Arena Lab connects to no broker and places no orders.
