Create your first TradingView price alert with Basic

A level to watch, a notification to prepare

Want to revisit a chart if price crosses a particular level? Start with a price alert, without an indicator or script. This exercise is about saving a clear condition, not finding a buying opportunity.

Basic, the free account, allows 3 active price alerts. Technical alerts are not included; they start with paid Essential. Official TradingView comparison.

Keep your TradingView account if you already have one. An open chart and a notebook are enough: no purchase, Strategy Arena account or Lab installation is needed for this exercise.

Free exercise: your first alert in 3 to 5 minutes

1. Prepare the chart. For example, use BINANCE:BTCUSDT, standard candles and 1D (1 day). This is an observation example, not an asset recommendation. Exit Replay if it is open.
2. Write down a price. Find a recent high above the displayed price and note its value. Write why you want to watch it: "revisit the chart if price crosses this high."
3. Open Alert / Create alert. Keep the symbol and its price in the condition, select Crossing Up, then enter your value. Do not select an indicator or drawing: that would be a technical alert. Alert types.
4. Select Only Once. Choose a nearby expiration, such as tomorrow. A simple price alert does not wait for the daily close, even on a 1D chart. Price alert frequency.
5. Prepare the message. Name it "BTCUSDT - watch recent high" and write "open the chart and note what changed." Enable email in the notification settings, then click Create.
6. Check it was saved. Find the alert in the right-hand panel and review its symbol, level, crossing direction, expiration and notification channel.

The exercise is complete when the alert is saved and its settings are checked. Price might not cross your level before it expires: receiving a notification within five minutes is not a success requirement. If it triggers later, note the time and your observation without treating the reminder as a buy order.

If something gets in the way

• A paid offer appears: return to the symbol, a numerical value and Crossing Up. Also check your active alerts; do not delete a useful one just for this exercise. You can wait for a slot to become available.
• No notification arrives: first check whether the alert actually triggered or expired. Then check the selected channel and your spam folder.
• You prefer browser or mobile notifications: allow browser notifications, or use the TradingView app with notifications enabled. Notification options.

Optional and paid: a technical alert

This is not part of the free exercise. If your subscription already includes technical alerts, you can explore a condition such as "RSI crosses above 30." That is an indicator condition, not a simple price threshold. Official classification.

You do not need to upgrade to finish this guide. Displaying an indicator on a chart and creating an alert on it are different uses. A more elaborate condition is not evidence of performance.
