TradingView Basic, Essential, Plus, Premium: Which Plan for Backtesting? (October 2026)

📅 2026-10-17
✍️ Strategy Arena
TradingView subscription Basic Essential Plus Premium Deep Backtesting backtest Pine Script

To backtest a Pine strategy, the free Basic plan already lets you write the script, run the Strategy Tester and check every trade; what paid plans add is mostly history: 5,000 bars on Basic, 10,000 on Essential and Plus, 20,000 on Premium. Deep Backtesting, which computes on all available history, is reserved for Premium and higher plans according to TradingView's help.

Prices and limits read on tradingview.com on 17 October 2026. They change: the official pricing page is the reference.

The limits that matter for backtesting

Plan Displayed price Historical bars Indicators per chart Pine calculation time Deep Backtesting
Basic €0 5,000 2 20 s no
Essential €12.95/month 10,000 5 40 s no
Plus €29.95/month 10,000 10 40 s no
Premium €59.95/month 20,000 25 40 s yes
Ultimate €199.95/month 40,000 50 100 s yes

Prices were shown in euros per month with annual billing when we checked; currency, taxes and promotions vary by country. Deep Backtesting: "available for Premium and higher plan users", with a limit of two million bars and one million trades (TradingView help, "How Deep Backtesting works").

What we could not verify plan by plan: the availability of Bar Magnifier (more realistic fills using lower timeframes). TradingView's help describes the feature without naming the plan; check the pricing page before buying for it.

What 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 bars cover

By arithmetic, the history each limit covers depending on your strategy's timeframe:

Timeframe Basic (5,000) Essential / Plus (10,000) Premium (20,000)
15 minutes 52 days 104 days 208 days
1 hour 208 days 1.1 years 2.3 years
4 hours 2.3 years 4.6 years 9.1 years
1 day 13.7 years 27 years 55 years

Reading: for a daily-bar strategy, Basic already covers most crypto history. For a strategy on 1 hour or less, 5,000 bars leave little room for a held-out test period: with a 30% cut-off, you get 62 days of test on 1-hour bars.

Which plan for which backtesting need

Very long history, many trades Premium or higher Deep Backtesting: up to 2 million bars

On 13 October 2026 we pasted Lab Pine exports into a TradingView Basic account and found 258 of 258, 97 of 97 and 26 of 26 trades identical to our engine (method). Verification does not require a paid plan.

What no plan adds

More history makes a test longer, not fairer. No plan counts the variants you tried, seals a period before tuning, or replays the strategy with doubled fees. Those three checks separate a result from a mirage: a strategy at +172.7% in training made −37% on unseen data (post-mortem).

That is where the Strategy Arena Lab fits: TradingView to write, chart and verify; the Lab to judge the strategy on a sealed period, with trials counted.

FAQ

Can you backtest for free on TradingView?

Yes. The Basic plan includes the Pine Editor and the Strategy Tester, with 5,000 historical bars according to the pricing page checked on 17 October 2026.

Which TradingView plan has Deep Backtesting?

According to TradingView's help, Premium and higher plans. The stated limit is two million bars and one million trades.

Essential or Plus for backtesting?

For history, both show 10,000 bars and 40 seconds of Pine calculation time. Plus mainly adds indicators per chart (10 vs 5) and other non-backtesting features.

Does a paid plan make a backtest more reliable?

No. It gives more data; reliability depends on fees, the test period and the number of trials. See the 7 checks of a backtest.
