Pine Script to Python Converter: Test TradingView Strategies Locally
Try a Pine example
An educational example, not a tested strategy or a buy signal. Copy it into TradingView's Pine Editor on the web. No Lab report is needed to try it.
The chart link is neutral, without affiliation. The example assumes a 0.1% commission per order; it does not model slippage. Copying does not evaluate or certify it.

Pine Script to Python Converter: Turn Any TradingView Strategy into Backtestable Code
You found a killer strategy on TradingView. The Pine Script looks solid, the chart results are promising, and the comments section is full of believers. But now what? You can't backtest it against your own data. You can't combine it with other strategies. You can't run it outside TradingView's walled garden.
Strategy Arena's Pine Script to Python Converter solves this in seconds. Paste your Pine Script, hit convert, and get clean Python code ready for independent backtesting.
Why Convert Pine Script to Python?
TradingView is excellent for charting and quick prototyping. But Pine Script has real limitations that serious traders hit fast:
- No independent backtesting: TradingView's backtester uses its own engine with specific assumptions about fills, slippage, and timing that may not match reality
- No strategy combination: You can't pit one Pine Script strategy against another in a fair head-to-head test
- No custom data: You're locked into TradingView's data feeds
- No programmatic control: You can't integrate Pine Script into a larger trading system
Python eliminates all of these constraints. Once your strategy lives in Python, you can backtest it against any historical data, compare it against the 75 strategies in the Arena, or run Monte Carlo simulations in the Backtest Lab.
How the Converter Works
The Pine Script to Python Converter handles the translation through several steps:
- Paste your Pine Script — the full strategy code from TradingView
- AI parses the logic — entry conditions, exit conditions, indicators, position sizing
- Python code is generated — clean, readable, using standard libraries (pandas, numpy)
- Ready for backtesting — output is compatible with Strategy Arena's backtest engine
The converter handles common Pine Script patterns including:
- Technical indicators: SMA, EMA, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, ATR, and dozens more
- Entry/exit conditions:
strategy.entry(),strategy.close(), crossover/crossunder logic - Risk management: Stop-loss, take-profit, trailing stops, position sizing
- Alert conditions: Translated into Python signal generation
From TradingView to Arena in 3 Steps
Once your Pine Script is converted to Python, the real power unlocks:
Step 1: Convert — Paste Pine Script into the converter and get Python code
Step 2: Backtest — Run the converted strategy through the Backtest Lab with historical data for BTC, ETH, SOL, Gold, Silver, and more. Add Monte Carlo simulation for robustness testing.
Step 3: Compare — See how your TradingView strategy stacks up against the 75 strategies already competing in the arena. Does your RSI crossover beat CUDA Evolved? Does your MACD strategy outperform Wyckoff?
You can also use Arena Script to write custom strategies from scratch if the conversion inspires you to build something new.
Or Skip Python: Paste the Pine into the Lab
Python is one route. The other keeps your Pine as it is: paste it into the Lab, the judge replays it trade by trade, export back to TradingView. Strategy Arena Lab 0.1.0-241 is free for Windows (NVIDIA GPU optional) and Linux (CPU engine).
- The judge runs the strategy under TradingView's own rules (
tv_exact_v1, the default since 241). In the real TradingView, the Lab's exports matched trade for trade: 234 of 234 for the 6 leaderboard strategies, 263 of 263 for the wider 241 export, 361 of 361 on the short-with-margin-call case (Q7). - The importer refuses a script rather than test a different strategy. Of the seven scripts in our free Pine Script strategies article, two import (RSI as is, EMA ribbon after three safe changes) and five are refused with a reason (measured on 10 October 2026).
- The sealed proof keeps a test period closed during the search, then applies PBO, deflated Sharpe, the SPA test, CPCV and Monte Carlo, and returns a verdict: likely a mirage, inconclusive, not enough trades to judge, or survived the unseen test.
- The Pine v5 export covers SMA, EMA, RSI, ROC, Donchian, Bollinger and MACD (states), ATR stops and trailing stops.
Validate Before You Reopen TradingView
The strongest workflow is not "convert and trust." It is:
- Convert Pine to Python with the Pine converter
- Validate the strategy with the TradingView validation workflow
- Compare verified examples in the validated TradingView strategy library
- Open TradingView only after the weak points are visible: drawdown, slippage, Monte Carlo fragility and market fit
Strategy Arena does not replace TradingView charts. It acts as the independent test bench before a Pine idea goes back to charts, alerts or paper trading.
Fast Path for Search Visitors
If you arrived here from Google with a Pine Script in hand, use this order:
- Convert it in the Pine Script to Python converter
- Stress-test it in the free Monte Carlo backtester
- Learn the failure modes in the free AI trading course
- Compare the result with live AI strategies on the dashboard
The goal is not to produce pretty Python. The goal is to know whether the strategy survives fees, slippage, drawdown and repeated market regimes.
If it survives that first pass, run the sealed proof in the Lab before you trust the chart.
If your search intent is "convert Pine", the profitable path is not just Python output. It is convert or import, backtest, sealed proof, Pine export, then inspect the final script on TradingView.

Common Pine Script Patterns That Convert Well
The converter handles most standard TradingView strategies effectively. Here are patterns that translate cleanly:
- Moving average crossovers — SMA/EMA cross strategies are the most straightforward conversions
- RSI overbought/oversold — Threshold-based strategies with clear entry/exit levels
- Bollinger Band breakouts — Band-touch or band-squeeze strategies
- Multi-indicator confluences — Strategies combining 2-3 indicators for signal confirmation
- ATR-based risk management — Dynamic stop-loss and take-profit levels

Why Not Just Use TradingView's Backtester?
TradingView's Strategy Tester is the reference for how a Pine script executes, which is why the Lab copies its rules (tv_exact_v1) and checks that the trades match. What a single report does not do on its own: keep a test period sealed while you search, count every variant you tried (PBO, deflated Sharpe, SPA, CPCV), resample the trade sequence (Monte Carlo) and compare the result with buy-and-hold on the same unseen window. That is the part Strategy Arena adds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the converter handle all Pine Script features?
It handles the most common patterns — indicators, entry/exit conditions, risk management, and alert logic. Highly custom Pine Script functions or version-specific syntax may need manual adjustment. The output includes comments flagging any sections that need review.
Is the converted Python code compatible with other backtesting frameworks?
The generated Python uses standard pandas and numpy, so it's portable. You can use it directly in Strategy Arena's Backtest Lab, adapt it for Backtrader, or integrate it into your own trading system.
Can I convert Pine Script indicators (not just strategies)?
Yes. The converter handles both strategy() and indicator() Pine Scripts. Indicator conversions produce Python functions that return signal arrays, which you can then wrap in your own entry/exit logic.
